ALL CHANGE - CONTINUOUS UPDATES TO MICROSOFT DYNAMICS AND WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Last month Microsoft announced that for customers who purchase subscriptions to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations after April 1, 2018, Platform updates will be continual and managed by Microsoft, rather than being optional. But what does this mean for you?

WHY?

Microsoft say this change is to improve service reliability and availability, as well as ensuring customers always have the latest improvements and fixes. Existing customer are being asked to move to Platform Update 12 by April 1 2018 to receive continual platform updates, managed by Microsoft. Platform updates are backward compatible and don’t require any change in your customizations. So far, so good and this approach will certainly address the issue of people inadvertently working on out-of-date versions, an issue we repeatedly come across. Working with out-of-date software can cause any number of problems with security, running speed, functionality, let alone the cost implications.

WHEN?

However, a word of warning, while minor fixes and patches for Microsoft Dynamics 365 will be dealt with as part of the ongoing continuous monthly updates, major fixes and releases will need to be scheduled with Microsoft and may require your systems to be offline for a chunk of time. This is something you need to be aware of when scheduling updates.
